A recent report estimated there are approximately 111,000 volunteers in Hampshire contributing a minimum of £16 million of in-kind resources to our communities.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and give time to a wide range of organisations from small voluntary groups providing activities for local communities, to schools and services such as the police and hospitals.
However, the views of volunteers are not always heard within their own organisation or by decision makers in the wider community. We aim to change this by establishing Hampshire Volunteer Voice, in co-operation with Hampshire Volunteer Centre network.
Through volunteers joining together their ‘voice’ could:
• Influence decision makers on issues related to volunteering
• Help increase the number of people volunteering and the availability of opportunities open to them
• Support organisations to improve how they manage volunteers
• Give volunteers increased influence in making service improvements - volunteers are often the people closest to the communities, working directly with the public and services users, thus developing a good understanding of front-line needs
Could you help develop Volunteer Voice in Hampshire?
We need people who are currently volunteering in a range of activities in health, transport, environment, welfare, advice and more general support for local communities, to come forward to explore the potential to set up Volunteer Voice in Hampshire.
